The Black Oak is more commonly known as the California Black Oak, and is sometimes called Kellogg Oak. This oak belongs to the red oak family and is originally from western north America. It is strongly related to the same species found in eastern and central Northern America.

Fungi of this type can be found throughout the year in many regions.
